Artist Statement

I have always been captivated by the transformative power of art and how it allows individuals to express themselves, communicate, and try out new ideas in ways that words alone cannot. Although I pursue my own artistic path, I additionally want to help  young people realise their own creative potential and sharing my artistic experience with others.

My experiences, both positive and negative, have shaped who I am today. In order to convey and emphasise the value of mental metal wellness and how allowing oneself to be influenced by modern society and attempting to conform to its expectations may disrupt a whole family. The focus of my artwork is a figure who is battling his inner demons, whose are slowly killing himself, in addition to the pressures of society. I exhibited an inebriated character through a variety of media, such as painting and sketching, which manifests in a range of stoned states when under the influence of different substances.

This character was based on a significant person in my life who battled alcoholism and was gradually succumbing himself, much to the horror of his family. My art attempts to draw attention to the excesses of any addiction, but more significantly, it aims to increase awareness and show the hideous repercussions of alcoholism when it reaches the point of dependence and loses sight of its limits.

A contemporary artist like Dominic Thorpe has inspired me because his creative work involves bodily performance trauma which he uses and considers as an often underexplored aspect of conflict. Much of his work addresses contemporary and historical violence, abuse and human rights

It has been experienced by individuals and groups who are struggling to understand and process the violence they have been directly or indirectly responsible for, which relates in some way to my art work in terms of anyone suffering from addiction, particularly alcoholism, from mental and especially physical state and how they put their body through so much trauma.

I considered how drinking is a social activity that many people want to partake in throughout my artwork. Even though drinking is now occasionally associated with rowdy behaviour, "sharing a drink" with loved ones is one of the oldest traditions of friendship in human history. Some behaviours that I witnessed often and that remained with me were having a family member who is often drunk and displays odd postures, being around people who drink a lot, and not caring about his health and the deterioration of your mental and physical well-being.

A drunk character who appears in various stoned stances while under the influence of alcohol provided the inspiration for my artwork. Depending on the setting or circumstance, he may be seen sitting on a bench, lying on a bed, or lying on the floor.

But nothing hurts more than seeing a loved one gradually lose their life and being powerless to stop it. His complete blackout, when he is unable to function and needs help from sober family members or less inebriated friends, is the ultimate test of his level of intoxication.I want to use my creativity as an artist to spread awareness and, more significantly, to show the awful consequences of alcoholism when it takes over a person's life and they are unable to see its limits.

This particular painting perfectly captures every moment of the inebriated character from my family that I have witnessed, sitting on the sofa on the floor and passing out from extreme drunkenness.

The subject is depicted in this painting as being exhausted and experiencing syncope after drinking.
